Sea Shipping Line Core Competency | FCLs Я Us |
Volume 2, Issue 5, October 2005 | ||
|
Facilitated by our SCMS software, we can offer full container load ocean
freight services from just about every exit port or rail point in the
Continental United States to almost every major point in the world. Not
only is this service virtually unmatched by any vessel operator, but in
most cases any SSL office can offer instantaneous quotes over the phone -
(door pick-ups, door deliveries, special equipment - flat racks & open
tops - or other special services may require extra time to formulate).
Our target market is primarily the small to medium sized foreign freight
forwarder, larger multi-national freight forwarders who do not have
worldwide contracts, household goods & personal effects movers, and
shippers who do not utilize the services of a freight forwarder. Due to
our pooled large volume of traffic, we can enable this client base to
compete with volume players; at the same time serving as a marketing and
sales agent for vessel operators whose sales force primarily focuses on
clients commanding larger volumes of containers. As always, a complete listing
of office addresses, communication numbers, staff, duties, and email
addresses can be found on our
website. SSL thanks you for allowing our
newsletter to rent space in your busy day and more importantly for your past and continued future
support.

1st Row Left: Fred Morgenthaler - President of Sea Shipping Line and chair of the meeting. Here, he is seen giving his blessing to the right side of the room - the side that tabled most of our European partners.
1st Row Right: Frank Rosenberg - President of Sea Shipping Line (California) Inc representing the offices of Oakland, Los Angeles, Houston & Seattle. This shot caught Frank outside during a break and was taken by our Chicago branch manager, Barbie Alekna. The amazing thing about this picture is that he is actually wearing a tie.
2nd Row Left: Ed Nevins - President of Sealines International in West Palm Beach, Florida. Ed has a good thing going in Florida and won't let me in on the action. You can tell by the smile that he is hiding something. Ed, you are a lot of fun.
2nd Row Right: Joe Felitto - Vice President of Sales and Marketing based in Red Bank, New Jersey. Joe has the mirror image of my position and is in charge of sales and marketing in the New York, Chicago, Norfolk, and Atlanta offices. Joe is as good as it gets and we all commend the performance of his team. Maybe someday I will also get his title?
3rd Row Left: Galina Khmyz (Operations Manager) & Anya Dranova (Inside Sales Manager) domiciled in our West Palm Beach, Florida office. These two professional women are part of the success of our Florida office. Both are Russian decent (as many are in the Florida office) lending to the multi-national ethnicity of SSL.
3rd Row Right: Dorota Steltenpohl - Branch Manager of our Atlanta office. Dorota is our newest Branch Manager and a welcome addition to the SSL family of offices. She has done a stellar job in solidifying our Southeastern profile.
4th Row Left: Barbara Alekna - Branch Manager of Chicago. What can I say - how can you resist giving freight to a girl with a smile like that.
4th Row Right: Shelia Worley - Norfolk's Branch Manager. Shelia has been in charge of the newest office established in SSL nation. Another great smile - give her a call - she's a hoot to talk to.
5th Row Left: Rick Ruisch is Managing Director of FCL Marine Agencies based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. FCL Marine Agencies is a close partner and friend to SSL. I could go on and on regarding the intellect of this gentleman.
5th Row Right: Dirk Noydens (left - Managing Director of FCL Marine Agencies in Antwerp, Belgium) & Michael Hunt (right - South Atlantic Sales Manager based in Charleston, South Carolina.) Sorry about the side view shot guys - but I think Fred was giving his blessing at this time.
6th Row Left: Thierry Petit - General Manager of BOSS (Blue Ocean Shipping System) based in Le Havre, France. Thierry and I had a lot of fun with this shot - we thought it best if we showed our French partner eating a French pastry. ?
6th Row Right: Ilka Inselmann is the Managing Director of FCL Marine Agencies in Bremen. Ilka is truly a specialist in her market and we are happy to have her to rely on. She gave us a wonderful map of Germany which is hanging right next to our branch manager in Los Angeles. Thanks again Ilka.
7th Row Left: Michael Harberl is the Managing Director of FCL Marine Agencies in Vienna, Austria. He and Jiri listed below are two of the newest additions to the FCL Marine family of offices in our European theater.
7th Row Right: Jiri Stepanek is the Branch Office Manager of FCL Marine Agencies in Prague, Czech Republic. Welcome aboard!
Missing in Action: Peter Stoutjesdijk (Operations Director - FCL Marine Agencies - the Netherlands), Derek O'Kelly-Lynch & Trish O'Brien (Jenkinson Agencies Ltd. - Cork, Ireland). My sincere apologies.

► October 17th, 2005: Current job openings at Sea Shipping Line:
► September 15th, 2005: U.S. Customs Delays Wood Packaging Rules - U.S. Customs will delay enforcement of new standards for treating wood packaging to help minimize the importation of potentially destructive insects until Feb. 1, 2006. The new requirements were supposed to go into effect on Sept. 16. Customs said it will instead implement a period of informed compliance from Sept. 16 to Jan. 31 to notify shippers of cargo that does not comply with the new treatment requirements. The agency said it will reject and re-export noncompliant shipments, beginning Feb. 1. Full enforcement is slated to begin on July 5, when noncompliant materials will not be allowed to enter the U.S. Customs has set up a temporary toll-free phone number to field questions about the new rules, (866) 738-8197. International shippers can call (301) 734-5346.
► October 28th, 2005: FMC Changes Rules on NVO Contracting - the Federal Maritime Commission will lift its restrictions on the use of Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier service arrangements (NSAs) by shippers associations with NVO members. Also on October 28th, the FMC will revise its NSA regulations to allow unaffiliated NVOs to enter into NSAs in a shipper-to-carrier capacity. The reasoning is that these moves will enhance competition and provide greater commercial flexibility.
